Arrival and Dismissal
Skelly Primary Arrival and Dismissal
Adults dropping off Pre-K and Kindergarten car riders at Primary should:
- Stay in their car
- Pull through the south entrance of the Primary parking lot to go through the drop-off line
- Ensure students are prepared to exit the car as you prepare to park.
- Teach students to open their own door, exit the car, and close the door themselves
- If you need to exit the car, you must park in a parking spot and walk your student to the cone.
- Primary walkers will be dropped off at the South Entrance Cone.
Adults picking up Pre-K and Kindergarten walkers and car riders should:
- After school Primary walkers and car riders will be picked up from Upper Skelly.
- Adults can meet their Primary walker students at Upper Skelly at the flagpole on the south side of the Upper Skelly building.
- Primary car riders and will be dismissed from the Upper drive thru car line.
Skelly Upper Arrival
- Car riders should be dropped off through the drive thru car line and walk into the building.
- Cars pull up to the Crosswalk and stop behind the crosswalk lines/orange cones.
- Beginning at 7:00 a.m.- When all cars are completely stopped, Skelly Staff will direct you to have students exit the cars. All students in cars between the crosswalk and the bike racks should exit the cars.
- Skelly staff will move the cones and wave the line forward. If your student(s) has not yet exited the car, stop at the crosswalk and we will put the orange cone in front of your car to stop traffic.
- Parents/Families are expected to be watchful at all times to avoid delays and ensure student safety.
- Cars are expected to make the FULL LOOP around the parking lot to exit.
- It is unacceptable to switch lanes, cut the line, or drive through parking spots.
- Failure to comply with our procedures may result in banishment from drop off.
Dismissal Procedures: Car Riders and Walkers
- All car riders and walkers will be dismissed from the Upper Building.
- This year we are using a new dismissal system for car riders called SchoolHouse Driveline. Please read carefully so you are prepared and understand our expectations.
- Families picking up students should enter the north end of the drive thru car line with their dismissal placard placed in the dashboard where it is easily visible to staff. Dismissal Placards are provided to each family and all students in the family are linked to one dismissal number. We will provide 2 placards. Additional placards and replacement of lost placards will cost $5 each. Please understand that we do not make money from these placards, the $5 covers the cost of printing and laminating. We cannot manually enter student names into our system. If you do not have your placard, a red sign will be placed on your windshield to alert the dismissal team that you will need to park until the end of dismissal, we will not call overflow for your student(s) until the conclusion of dismissal.
- See the map on Page 21 for a visual of a change in our grouping system. We believe this will allow for a faster dismissal and less wait time. We ask that you park if our staff members direct you to do so. Note that group 1 now includes ONLY the loop on the south side of the cross-walk and group 3 includes the parking spots on the south side of the cross-walk that were formerly part of group 1.
- Our staff will ensure that students are safe in the parking lot. We ask that you trust us and our process and stay in your car, even if it does not make sense to you.
PLEASE DO NOT SWITCH LANES UNLESS DIRECTED BY A STAFF MEMBER, EVEN IF IT SEEMS LIKE IT’S NOT A BIG DEAL OR WOULDN’T CAUSE A PROBLEM. Switching lanes causes our groups to be uneven and makes dismissal take longer.
Dismissal Placards-Car Riders Only
Each family who has indicated that they are a car rider on our digital “how I go home” form will have their own Dismissal Placard that MUST be placed on your car’s dashboard in order for the student(s) to be released. When our staff enter your dismissal number, it is linked all the students you are picking up. 2 Placards will be provided to each family. It is your responsibility to ensure that any alternative pick up person has a physical placard. We will not accept a photo of the placard, a photocopy, or a verbal number. This is to ensure student safety. Any adult with a student’s placard is presumed to be safe to pick up that student(s) from school. Replacement or extra placards can be purchased for $5 each.
ALL Walkers
Walkers are only students who are walking to their home from school. Any students being picked up by car MUST be picked up through the car line. Due to safety concerns, cars are not allowed to pick up students in the street or any neighboring parking lots. All Walkers will be released after the first group of car riders are loaded in cars and those cars have exited the parking lot. This will usually happen between 2:35 - 2:40.
Pre-K - 5th Grade Walkers
ALL Walkers who are walking from school to their home will be walked to the flagpole at the Upper building by school staff and released. For the safety of our students, walkers will be released after the first group of car rider students. Parents who wish to meet their student to walk home with them may meet them at the flagpole. All walkers will be released by grade level order starting with 5th Grade.
Important Note on Dismissal
Changes to how students go home will NOT be permitted for the first month of school unless explicitly approved by admin. Dismissal does take longer in the first month of school and we ask that you have patience with us and your students as we acclimate to the procedures. We promise, it gets much faster. Changes throughout the remainder of the school year will only be permitted with a 24-hour notice to the office. Do not inform your student(s) teacher directly. You must call the office.
Bus Rider Expectations
- Bus transportation is a privilege Tulsa Public Schools is happy to provide.
- Safety is our number one priority.
- Students may have assigned seats.
- Students will remain seated with their backs against the seats.
- Students will talk in a reasonable voice.
- Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.
- Each seat will have one to three students seated in them.
- Cell phones must be turned off (and ear buds removed).
- Students who do not follow school safety procedures on the bus or at the bus stop will not be allowed to continue riding the bus.
- Bus riders will sign a bus behavior contract so they know exactly what is expected of them.
- These guidelines are for the safety of all riders. Failure to follow them may result in loss of this privilege.
- All bus riders and parent/guardian must sign Bus Rider Agreements.
- Primary bus riders will be picked up and dropped off at the Primary Loop.
