Dozens of Tulsa Public Schools students from Skelly Elementary recently had the opportunity to visit Operation School Bell for the organization’s signature shopping experience.
The bright, vibrant space is stocked with racks of clothing – uniforms, casual clothes, shoes, and accessories. Everything is brand new – purchased with proceeds from their partner thrift store. Students get a personal shopper to guide them through the individualized experience, and everything the students pick out is theirs to keep and completely free.
While students wait for their shopping appointments, volunteers engage with them in their inviting community space, filled with chalkboards, puzzles, games, arts and crafts activities, and various STEM building materials. On this particular day, student shoppers are accompanied by Assistance League members, as well as volunteers from Bank of America Tulsa.
Operation School Bell works closely with school counselors in Tulsa Public Schools to identify students whose families need assistance in providing school clothes and other essentials. In the 2023-24 school year, this partnership reached 1,829 Tulsa Public Schools students from 45 elementary schools, equipping our youngest learners with uniforms, play clothes, shoes, books, and more.
